Drug Trafficking You Deserve the Strongest Defense Possible.

Salisbury Drug Trafficking Attorney

Let Our Skilled Attorney Fight for Your Rights

Believe it or not, you could be charged with trafficking merely by moving 5 grams or more of a controlled substance into the state of Maryland. Just transporting marijuana across state lines, for example, would be considered trafficking and would be prosecuted as a felony. If you’ve been accused of trafficking drugs into Maryland, make sure you hire an experienced Salisbury criminal defense attorney. William R. Hall, P.A. is a firm that has helped people for more than 20 years.

Penalties

According to Maryland law, if you are found transporting 5 grams or more of marijuana, you might be convicted of a felony and would be imprisoned for up to 25 years. Likewise, you would be fined up to $50,000. If you bring anywhere between 5 and 45 kilograms of marijuana into the state, you would still be accused of a felony and would be imprisoned for up to 10 years and fined up to $10,000.

You might face additional punishments for also carrying a firearm at the time of your arrest for trafficking and could be imprisoned from 5 to 20 years. For each subsequent violation, you would face prison time of 10 to 20 years.

Your penalties will also be more severe depending on the type of drug you are accused of trafficking. For example, cocaine and heroin are both considered more dangerous types of drugs than marijuana. Being convicted of trafficking cocaine or heroin could get you anywhere from 20 to 40 years in prison, and you might be charged a $1 million fine.

Federal Laws

Because the federal and state governments have their own laws and punishments regarding drug trafficking, both courts may charge you for the same crime without violating Double Jeopardy. Many federal drug charges include mandatory minimum sentences, meaning no matter the circumstances of your case, you will receive at least a few years in prison automatically if you are convicted. For example, for a 1st offense drug trafficking conviction of 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, with intent to distribute, you will receive a mandatory 10 years in prison.
