A family from a nearby state recently suffered a horrific tragedy in Maryland. The auto accidentkilled members of the same extended family, including two children and an unborn child. Maryland authorities are still investigating the crash.
The accident occurred on a recent Saturday in Queen Anne's County. According to reports, emergency responders were alerted to a collision that took place at an intersection. Upon an initial investigation, it was revealed that the driver of a car was headed in the westbound direction when the vehicle approached an intersection. At the same time, the driver of a tractor-trailer was headed in the southbound direction.
The tractor-trailer crashed into the passenger side of the car, sending both vehicles across the road. The tractor-trailer then rolled on top of the car and came to a stop. The occupants in the car died. Apart from the deaths of two children and an unborn child, three adults also died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was airlifted to a medical facility in Maryland for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the fatal auto accident and have not yet determined the exact cause of the crash. The details of the investigation may reveal who was responsible for the crash, which may be helpful in determining what parties may be entitled to file legal claims. The surviving family of the deceased victims likely retain the right to file wrongful death claims, while the driver of the tractor-trailer (should the evidence document that the car driver was at fault) could have the right to file a personal injury claim against the deceased driver's estate. Individuals who are faced with similar circumstances may gain by speaking with an experienced personal injury attorney in Maryland in order to determine the best way to proceed.
