A tragic accident occurred on a Maryland roadway on a recent Tuesday evening. The terrible head-on crash resulted in the loss of one life and injuries to several other individuals. Drunk driving is suspected in the case, and authorities say they believe alcohol was a main factor.
A 26-year-old male was behind the wheel of a sports utility vehicle that was reportedly traveling on an inbound road at approximately 7 p.m. when the crash occurred. Another vehicle, heading outbound was allegedly struck when the first vehicle apparently veered across the center lane of traffic. After striking the second car, the first vehicle was reported to have gone off the road and hit a nearby tree.
Two passengers riding in the car with the 26-year-old were said to have been ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Both passengers are 23 years old and were taken to area hospitals for emergency care. One of them was a female, who succumbed to her injuries after being taken for treatment. The other, a male, remains in critical condition according to information provided.
Three occupants from the car that was struck -- ages 18, 31, and 47 --were also injured in the tragedy and were transported to area medical facilities for treatment. Police continue to investigate the collision. In Maryland and all other states, a victim injured due to the fault of another in a motor vehicle accident has the right to file a legal claim against another motorist believed responsible for the collision. Successfully litigated drunk driving cases can lead to compensatory awards that can be used to help pay medical bills and cover other costs related to the incident.
